TULSA, Okla. (June 23, 2023) – Day 2 of elite competition in the BOK Center saw more national champions crowned and a National Team named at the 2023 USA Gymnastics Championships.

Acrobatic dynamic and balance podiums solidified

Angel Felix (Moreno Valley, Calif.) and Braiden McDougall (Riverside, Calif.) of Realis Gymnastics Academy claimed another national title Friday with their balance performance score of 29.800, giving them their second title in as many days. Senior mixed pair Cassidy Cu (Castro Valley, Calif.) and Jaylen Ivey (San Jose, Calif) of WestCoast Training Center also won balance gold with a 22.480, while the senior women’s pair from Mid America Acro Tumbling of Mo Arthur (Rolla, Mo.) and Ariana Katsov (Owensville, Mo.) secured their second dynamic gold in the division with a 28.630. The senior women’s group from Emilia’s Acro Gymnastics and Cheer of Mariam Tutberidze (Owings Mills, Md.), Grace Vonder Haar (Laurel, Md.) and Kayla Vonder Haar (Laurel, Md.) earned gold with a 27.580 for their dynamic routine.

In 13-19 division competition, the women’s group of Hannah Davis, Ayla Vargas and Gabriella Vathy from Acrobatic Gymnastics of San Antonio won balance gold with a 29.050. The 13-19 mixed pair of Andrew Castro (Riverside, Calif./Realis Gymnastics Academy) and Hailee Wong (Colton, Calif./Realis Gymnastics Academy) posted a 28.040 for first in balance. The 13-19 duos of Ethan Chang (Columbia, Md./Emilia’s Acro Gymnastics and Cheer) and David Vonder Haar (Laurel, Md./Emilia’s Acro Gymnastics and Cheer), and Willow Noble (Moreno Valley, Calif./Realis Gymnastics Academy) and Sydney Padios (Moreno Valley, Calif./Realis Gymnastics Academy) each clinched dynamic gold with scores of 27.050 and 28.350, respectively.

Mizuno leads seniors; Keys take junior rhythmic all-around, clubs

The 2021 all-around rhythmic champion, Lili Mizuno (Northbrook, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics) won her first senior U.S. clubs title on Friday with a 34.200 and led all-around qualifying with her 125.650. Sarah Mariotti (San Diego, Calif./Pacific Stars Rhythmic Academy) secured her first individual medal at the championships, taking the ribbon title with a 30.600.

In group competition, Izzy Connor (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.), Daria Merkulova (Vernon Hills, Ill.), Gergana Petkova (Barrington, Ill.), Katrine Sakhnov (Glencoe, Ill.), Karolina Saverino (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) and Hana Starkman (Deerfield, Ill.) added the three ribbon and two ball gold to their medal count with a 27.050.

After winning hoop and ball gold Thursday afternoon, Rin Keys (San Diego, Calif./Pacific Stars Rhythmic Academy) topped the junior all-around podium with a 121.250 and also earned clubs gold with a 31.250, giving her four of five available gold medals. Ksenia Pototski (Brooklyn, N.Y./Isadora by Match Point) was second in the all-around (119.150) and won ribbon with a 28.900, while Megan Chu (San Diego, Calif./Pacific Stars Rhythmic Academy) claimed all-around bronze with a 118.250. North Shore’s junior group of Goda Balsys (Northbrook, Ill.), Annabella Hantov (Northfield, Ill.), Kristina Lee (Woodridge, Ill.), Greta Pavilonyte (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Alaini Spata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) claimed the all-around title with 53.400 and also took five ball gold with a 27.150).

The 2023-24 Rhythmic Junior National Team was also named following Friday’s competition. Members of the team are listed alphabetically below.

The North Shore group of Balsys, Hantov, Lee, Pavilonyte and Spata will represent the U.S. as the Junior National Group.

T&T finals fields take shape

In men’s tumbling competition, Kaden Brown (Herriman, Utah/Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling) put on a dominant performance to take the top qualifying spot heading into Saturday’s final with a 56.800. Ruben Padilla (Bluffdale, Utah/Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling) notched the top men’s double mini spot with a 61.200, while Sarah Webster (Lafayette, La./Trampoline and Tumbling Express) ranked No. 1 in women’s individual trampoline qualifications with a 53.800.

The top eight competitors on per division will join Thursday’s qualifiers in finals competition Saturday.
